What is the Arlington Park PorchfesT?
The Arlington Park PorchfesT SRQ is a grassroots community music festival where front porches become stages, yards become venues, and radical generosity and good will rule the day!
A local music festival featuring free live shows on porches in Arlington Park! The very first Porchfest was held in Ithaca, NY in 2007 with the concept of having musicians play an afternoon of music on front porches throughout the community. The concept has been spreading ever since, and Arlington Park SRQ is hosting its 3rd Annual event this year!
PorchfesT 2018 will feature 60 Bands on 30 Porches!!
How does it work?
PorchfesT is an afternoon of coordinated, independent yard performances. There no specific enclosed area and everything you see, eat, or experience exists only because someone decided to set it up and do it. Every porch host, performer, vendor and attendee is in effect a co-creator and real-time manager of the event. The organizing committee, such that it is, exists only to manage logistics, coordinate performances, and promote the day.
When is it happening?
Arlington Park PorchfesT goes down on Sunday, October 7, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Where does it take place?
Waldemere St. to the north, Hyde Park St. to the south, the west border is East Ave, and the east border is S. Shade Ave. (additional streets may be added)
I want to play or host a band.
Contact the committee. Click Here or call or text 941-779-7170, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We have 60 bands ranging all genres, spread across the porches and yards of the Arlington Park neighborhood.
Do I need a ticket?
Nope. This event is totally free.
Is there a map or schedule?
There will be, yes. Please check our Facebook page and our website for official line up. www.porchfestsrq.com There will also be volunteers passing out maps around the perimeter of the neighborhood the day of the festival.
Will you be closing streets?
Some partial street closures may occur- however, we are committed to the sharing of public space and making the effort to accommodate one another. For drivers, this means slowing down and expecting to find pedestrians, bikes, and crowds spilling out into the streets. And for those enjoying the festival, it means recognizing that people need to get through with their car. So just relax and make it work. It’s the neighborly thing to do.
What about eating and drinking?
We have food this year!!! Various food trucks will be set up around the neighborhood selling their fares for your enjoyment!
IMPORTANT: PorchfesT is not a festival in the conventional sense and does not have a contained and managed festival area. That means there are no festival alcohol sales. The entire event takes place in individually owned yards, linked by the public streets in between, so be advised: When in public, you are liable for your own behavior and subject to all existing ordinances regarding possessing and consuming alcohol.
Are dogs allowed?
Rules for pets – including leash laws and waste pick up – are the same as they would be on any public street at any other time. That being said, all of the PorchfesT’s entertainment is on porches and different homeowners may have different preferences as it relates to dogs on their property. So just be aware of and sensitive to that and everyone should get along just fine.
Where do I park?
It doesn’t matter because you are walking, biking, Ubering, or taking mass-transit, right? If you must drive, our suggestion, park towards the outer edges of the perimeter of the festival and work your way in on foot.
We encourage PorchfesT participants (hosts, musicians, and audience members) to take photos, video and audio recordings. When posting to social media, use #porchfestsrq. We also request that you email us your photos, videos, and audio recordings to add to our archive and media pages.
